We spent 2 amazing days with Rosa and Kenyon for their wedding celebration. Traditional Eritrean and Ethiopian weddings can last a month, but in America, they last 2 days. The first day starts with the bride going to her parents house for a blessing before the ceremony. For the reception, the elders (especially on the brides side) accompany the bridal party to the groom’s house for festivities. It creates a procession like what would be done for a king and a queen. That is why when we entered the reception, people lined up with flowers and swords accompanyed us in. A live singer sings traditional Triginya songs and the guests dance in a circle moving their shoulders and shuffling their feet which is called “quda.” The second day is a more intimate crowd which consists of the immediate family and close friends. We are truly honored to have had the opportunity to photograph such a unique and beautiful celebration! Congrats Rosa & Kenyon!
